Aetna Inc. is an American managed health care company, which sells traditional and consumer directed health care insurance plans and related services, such as medical, pharmaceutical, dental, behavioral health, long-term care, and disability plans. Aetna ranked No. 49 in the 2018 Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue.
In June 2017, the company announced plans to move its headquarters to New York City in late 2018. On December 3, 2017, it was announced that CVS would purchase Aetna for an estimated $69 billion, a deal which the New York Times reported would "reshape the American health care industry." In doing so, CVS announced the company's headquarters would remain in Hartford, scrapping plans to move to New York City.
